Become a Better Writer & Complete a Polished Story

Writing a story isn't for the faint of heart. It takes multiple revisions, tons of rethinking, and a lot of questions to make sure what's happening on the page matches what you had in mind.

And that doesn't even count the storm of thoughts in your head during the process.

Stuff like..."does this sound stupid?"

"Does it even make sense?

Or even..."Will anyone actually want to read this at all?"

If you feel stuck or insecure about your project, let Short Story Coaching show you the way to a fully revised final product so you can feel confident about your writing & sharing it with others.

Frequently Asked Questions

What stage in the writing process should my story be in for it to qualify?

Any stage works! It can be a very early or even first draft or something you've been working on for awhile.

What genres do you accept?

Inkling Creative Strategies has worked with authors from all genres, including fantasy, horror, sci-fi, historical, and literary. We do not accept pornography or any work that glorifies behavior that is harmful to others.

I write flash fiction. Can I send a group of shorter pieces?

Absolutely. We love flash fiction.

I write nonfiction. Is this offer just for fiction writers, or could I sign up to work on an essay?

Any time of short form writing is welcome, including essays.

What kind of feedback will I get?

Kori will approach your work with 2 questions in mind: what is currently working & what is confusing or distracting. You'll receive both marginal notes & a written summary of how to approach your revisions.

How does the process work?

The first step is to sign up for an initial Virtual Meetup with Kori. You'll discuss your story & goals as a writer, then send over a copy of the story for initial review. You'll receive both marginal comments & a written critique of the first draft.

You'll then complete two additional rounds of revision based on feedback on your later drafts.

You will also connect on Zoom in the middle of the process to touch base & at the end to talk about opportunities for continued revision & submitting your work for publication.

How long do I have to sign up?

This service is only available through December 6 (the conclusion of Cyber Week) or until no more slots remain.

What payment forms do you take?

Currently, we accept PayPal, Venmo, & check.

Can I give a mentorship as a gift?

Of course. If you are interested in this opportunity as a gift for a friend or loved one, email Kori directly at kori@inklingcreative.work.

What formats should I submit my story in?

Microsoft Office & Google Docs are easiest for providing feedback within the comments section.

Can you help me get my work published?

Yes! A big part of this process will involve discussing where to submit your story for publication once it's finished.
